Why I built Life Maintenance

A few years ago I became a homeowner, and I quickly realized how much I didn't know. Not just the big, obvious stuff — servicing the furnace, changing the car oil — but the quieter, smaller things that nobody ever tells you about. Things that don't announce themselves until they've quietly been costing you money, or quietly become a much bigger problem than they needed to be. I kept hearing the same kinds of stories from friends and family: a missed filter replacement that turned into a repair bill, a skipped check-up that became a health scare, a pet vaccination that lapsed without anyone noticing. The tasks weren't hard. People just didn't know they needed doing, or had simply forgotten.

I went looking for a tool that could help — something that would tell me what needs maintaining, how often, and why it actually matters. I couldn't find one that did all of that well. Most were either too narrow (just cars, or just home appliances), too complicated to set up, or just a plain reminder app with no real guidance. So I built Life Maintenance. The goal was simple: make it easy for any household to know what needs attention, when, and what happens if you let it slide.

You shouldn't need to be an expert to take good care of the things and people that matter to you. That's what the app is here for.

A small thing I didn't know: There's a filter plate underneath most fridges that collects dust over time. I had no idea it needed cleaning. When it gets blocked, the fridge has to work harder to maintain temperature — and you pay for it quietly, every month, on your energy bill. Nobody told me. There was no reminder. That's exactly the kind of thing Life Maintenance is built to catch.
